Coin pusher in my area
My competitors field a lot of varied equipment- most routes are built on either triples or doubles, with a smattering of odds and ends throughout (like most routes, I imagine), but today I found something totally new in one of my locations- a quarter pusher. The pusher in question is a rather new (no wear or tear at all from what I can see) generic black unit. There are (of course) no identifying marks on it of any sort, save a homemade note asking users to not rock the machine. Either the operator is completely new to the business, or his customers rocked the machine- there was maybe $10 in quarters in the whole thing when I saw it. It has a candy top, but there's no candy in it. The one below is a photo of a similar machine I pulled off the internet.
This is big news- it certainly doesn't threaten my route in it's condition, but raises a lot of serious questions. I was told that these were absolutely outlawed in Wisconsin except in places where gambling is allowed. If it's another vendor, the location should be informed so that the rest of the vendors (myself included) don't suffer the consequences should the authorities intervene. If it's the location's machine, I'm not sure how to proceed on that one.
If I've been wrong this whole time about their outlawed status, and these things are legal with a permit or something, then I may need to look into getting one of these machines myself!
It's a delicate situation, I want to do the right thing here, but I also don't want to upset anyone either. I figure the best thing to do right now is gather as much information as I can before making any moves. If I make any moves at all, though I rather doubt this situation will sort itself out on it's own. Does anyone have any ideas on this one? This is a new situation for me. Thanks in advance!

In my area they are hot on confiscating these. I actually had a discount store that put a slot machine in. I asked how they got away with it and they said it was amusement and no payout. Two months later they got shut down by tax board. I lost a 4way rack.
Sorry to hear it JA! That's what I was most worried about- my equipment (and to a lesser degree my competitors) all getting kicked out because of one guy breaking the rules. I talked to the administrator, and he said the machine "is fine" so I don't know if that means he has a permit or what exactly. I'm keeping an eye on it, but finding solid answers has been an uphill battle. State legislation here has them in a gray area, and I can't find anything for the county this one is set up in.
